Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sudhiranjan Lahiri Mahavidyalaya (Established on 01.06.2008)
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sudhiranjan Lahiri Mahavidyalaya was instituted on June 1, 2008, as a strategic initiative to uphold and enhance the quality of academic and administrative operations within the institution. This formation is in accordance with the directives of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which underscores the necessity for internal quality assurance mechanisms in higher educational institutions to ensure sustained development and systematic enhancement.
Serving as the central coordinating body for all quality-related activities, the IQAC functions as a pivotal mechanism for fostering a culture of conscious, consistent, and catalytic improvement across all spheres of institutional performance. Since its inception, the IQAC has contributed significantly to the formulation of institutional policies, the promotion of best practices, and the nurturing of a culture of academic excellence.
Structure and Composition
The IQAC is constituted with comprehensive representation from all key stakeholders. The Cell is chaired by the Principal and includes senior faculty members, administrative personnel and members from the local community. Furthermore, an external expert—typically from an academic or industrial background—is appointed to provide objective insights and broaden the Cell’s perspective.
Functions and Activities
Since its establishment, the IQAC has undertaken numerous initiatives aimed at ensuring quality assurance and promoting continuous improvement:
- Academic Audits: Regular academic audits are conducted to assess the efficacy of teaching-learning processes and to recommend necessary enhancements.
- Feedback Mechanism: A structured feedback system involving students, alumni, parents, and other stakeholders aids in identifying gaps and areas requiring attention.
- Curricular Reforms: The IQAC works collaboratively with academic departments to review and revise the curriculum, ensuring its relevance to current academic and industry standards.
- Faculty Development: The Cell organizes workshops, seminars, and training programs to enhance the professional competencies of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
- Research Promotion: Faculty members are encouraged to engage in scholarly research, publish their work, and apply for research funding.
- Green and Digital Initiatives: The IQAC promotes sustainable practices, digitization of institutional records, and the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into pedagogical processes.
- Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR): The IQAC is responsible for preparing and submitting the AQAR to NAAC annually, documenting institutional progress across various quality parameters.
Impact and Achievements
Over the years, the IQAC has made substantial contributions to the enhancement of institutional quality. Its initiatives have facilitated increased adoption of technology in education, the strengthening of student support services, the improvement of physical infrastructure, and the reinforcement of governance mechanisms. The IQAC has also played a critical role in the NAAC accreditation and re-accreditation processes, including the preparation of the Self-Study Report (SSR) and coordination of peer team visits.
The establishment of the IQAC on June 1, 2008, marked a significant milestone in Sudhiranjan Lahiri Mahavidyalaya’s pursuit of academic and institutional excellence. Through its ongoing efforts, the Cell has instilled a culture of self-assessment, innovation, and accountability.
